Mrs. Amaya wrote in this week's Raven Review:

Our first guild "competition" started last week, but I have noticed that it is slow going. It is the time of year when RSAR students gather food to donate to Northwest Harvest. Food insecurity is a serious issue in King County. According to a Seattle PI report, about 12% of King County residents have reported having run out of money to purchase food in the last year. That statistic is only 1% above the state levels. It has been shown that children who lack adequate food and nutrition are more likely to have an increase in illness, both physical and psychosocial, which can affect academic learning.

For the last 8 years, RSAR students have gathered nonperishable food to donate to Northwest Harvest. RSAR even won an award two years ago for more than 2,000+ items donated. (Todd's Guild gathered 900 cans of food.) We would like to do this again!

If you are able and willing to donate to our food drive we would appreciate it. You may send donations with your child or bring them to the office.

Don’t forget to tell Mrs. Arnquist to which Guild the donation belongs!
